The Tower of London, properly known as Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress, is at the top of the list of things to see in London. Located on the north bank of the River Thames, it houses the Crown Jewels. Famous in fiction and history, the Tower of London draws thousands of visitors every year.
The City of London and Southwark are connected by one of the most famous bridges mentioned in childhood, London Bridge. It has never literally fallen down, just rebuilt. There’s over 2000 years of history behind the creation of this beautiful landmark spanning the River Thames.
For the young-at-heart or devoted animal lover, London Zoo is high on the list of things to see. The oldest scientific zoo in the world is home to more than 755 species of animals. The first hippopotamus seen by Europeans since the Roman Empire was on display at the zoo in 1850. Many others species have won public approval over the years. The most famous example might be Winnipeg, an American black bear, which was the inspiration for the A.A. Milne’s character, Winnie the Poo.
Madame Tussands is a wax museum famous for their eerily life-like statues. Marie Tussand was a famous wax sculptor who created likenesses of Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Benjamin Franklin. Her London museum was famous for the Chamber of Horrors. The exhibition featured murderers and models of victims of the French revolution. The museum collection expanded over time and now includes sports figures, celebrities, and historical figures.
